What we focus on we amplify. I choose to focus on beauty. Beauty is not always beautiful. I paint about choosing to find beauty. I paint about what I want to see more than I paint about what it is that I actually see. I record the present so that each painting will document the past while having an eye towards a future and a hope. I always paint about hope.

I was struggling with perfectionism. The need to control the outcome in life and in art was crippling me.
So I took the most magnificent, enormous, expensive piece of handmade French Arches paper and I tossed it in Lake Michigan.
Soaked and full of sand, I left the paper out over night to dry on top of a friend’s kayak. As I started to paint on the beach, where sand was everywhere and I could control so few elements of the work, I practiced surrendering to the beauty of imperfection. In releasing control to nature, I found so much joy in the “mistakes” and the unexpected.
The beach, the sand, the water, and the weather introduced me to the flow of life. I am forever changed, and the art flows with me, to better and more beautiful places.
Note: The Love Particle started as a single piece and I divided it into two because it became a present for two sisters, as a symbol of their shared past, their shared blood, and their future." These two pieces are in private collection, but are available as giclée prints.
